Court Set to Hear Senator Natasha’s ₦100 Billion Defamation Suit Against Akpabio Aide
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in connection with a defamation lawsuit she filed against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his legislative aide, Mfon Patrick. The suit, filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, seeks ₦100 billion in general damages and ₦300 million in litigation costs.
The legal action stems from a Facebook post allegedly authored by Mfon Patrick, titled “Is Local Content Committee of the Senate Natasha’s Birthright?” The post reportedly included disparaging remarks about Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, suggesting she lacked understanding of legislative procedures and implying that her focus was on personal appearance rather than legislative duties. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan contends that these statements have damaged her reputation and subjected her to public ridicule.
In addition to monetary damages, the senator is seeking a public apology from the defendants and a court order restraining them from making further defamatory statements against her. The court has set the hearing for Tuesday, June 3, 2025, to address these allegations.

This court appearance is part of a broader legal dispute involving Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Akpabio. In a related development, Unoma Akpabio, the wife of the Senate President, has filed separate lawsuits against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, alleging defamation and seeking ₦250 billion in damages. These suits are based on claims that the senator made false and damaging statements about the Akpabio family, causing emotional distress and reputational harm.
The ongoing legal battles highlight the escalating tensions within Nigeria's political landscape and underscore the importance of addressing defamation claims through the judicial system.
